July New Releases

After a somewhat slow June, July is a good month for new releases. A lot of them I've been waiting for!

Torn Apart by Sharon Sala
published by Mira
The twister that touches down in Bordelaise, Louisiana, not only destroys the calm of a summer Sunday, it pierces the soul of Katie Earle, whose young son Bobby goes missing…and it wasn't the storm that took him.

Katie's first thought is that her estranged husband, J.R., saw his chance and grabbed Bobby to spite her. But the reality goes beyond that to truly horrifying, and now her nightmare is only just beginning. The real terror will begin when the tornado's wreckage is cleared away and the kidnapper can escape with his prize.

The agony of uncertainty grows with every passing hour as Katie and J.R. reunite with a single, desperate purpose: to find their son before he slips from their grasp...forever.
Genre: Romantic Suspense
Series: Storm Front trilogy, Book #2

Nath: I love Ms Sala's writing, there's just something in it that touches me :) The last book was a bit disappointing, but I'm hoping this one will be up to her standard.

Ames: I enjoy Victoria's contemporary novels, having read her first two, so I'm looking forward to reading this one.

Monroe: I have grown to LOVE Victoria Dahl SO MUCH! I have yet to read her historical (although little Ms. Ames picked one up for me ;p) but I devoured her contemps! I know this one will be a winner!

Nath: I liked Talk Me Down enough, but ultimately, what made me pick up this book is the fact that it's a stand-alone :)

Lady Isabella's Scandalous Marriage by Jennifer Ashley

Genre: Historical Romance

Ames: I LOVED The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie and I was intrigued by Ian's brother's marriage. Plus I like stories where a couple has been separated (like The Stranger I Married by Sylvia Day).

Monroe: TOTALLY forgot about this book! I too loved The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie! I think we can all agree that it was so different in SUCH a great way! This next one has something Ive been waiting on for a while! =)

Nath: Definitively getting this one. I'm really curious about the Mackenzie family and Isabella and Mac's marriage :) Also, as Ames said, stories about separated couples are always interesting.

Monroe: If you don't follow this series you've sadly been living under a rock! ;p I ADORE this series and after reading Mandi's review (Smexy Books) Im jumping for joy over it! Nalini Singh ROCKS!

Nath: Ms Singh's definitively rocks :) She's one of my favorite authors and on my auto-buy list. Her writing is excellent and her books are all solid reads; I've enjoyed them all :)

Genre: Paranormal Romance
Series: Guardians series, Book #10

Ames: Here's another series I'm not caught up on, but that's ok. Meljean is an auto-buy author for me. Cuz she's that cool.

Nath: Book #10 already? Seriously? LOL. Ms Brook's writing is compelling and her plots so complex, but engaging. Haven't read Demon Forged yet (mental blockage for some reasons ^_^;), but I'm eager to read Demon Blood :D

Ames: I was counting the novellas, too. :P

Ames: Lauren is another auto-buy author for me. I haven't read any of the books in this series, but I've got the first two in my tbr pile. I know I'm going to enjoy them too because there hasn't been a Lauren Dane book yet that I haven't enjoyed. *g*

Monroe: Ames has introduced me to Lauren Dane and Mmmmm mmmm...I'm glad she did! ;) So I guess my only comment would have to be...Lauren Dane...enough said! ;)

Their combined chemistry ignites something else that Ethan and Rhett had thought was long dead—the mutual attraction that drew them together in the first place. Except bitter jealousy over Kieran could only push them even farther apart…
Genre: M/M Romance
Series: N/A

Ames: I've just read my first Witt novel (The Best Man) and really really enjoyed it. This one sounds interesting!

The Search by Nora Roberts
published by Putnam
To most people, Fiona Bristow seems to have an idyllic life — a quaint house on an island off Seattle’s coast, a thriving dog-training school, and a challenging volunteer job performing canine search and rescue. Not to mention her three intensely loyal Labs. But Fiona got to this point by surviving a nightmare.

Several years ago, she was the only survivor of a serial killer — a madman who stalked and abducted young women, strangled them, and left them buried with a red scarf on their bodies. As authorities were closing in on the Red Scarf Killer, he shot and killed Fiona’s cop fiancĂ© and his K-9 partner.

On Orcas Island, Fiona has found the peace and solitude she needed to rebuild her life. Yet all that changes on the day Simon Doyle barrels up her drive, desperate for her help. He’s the reluctant owner of an out-of-control puppy, foisted upon him by his mother. Jaws has eaten through Simon’s house, and he’s at his wit’s end.

To Fiona, Jaws is nothing she can’t handle. Simon is another matter. A newcomer to Orcas, he’s a rugged and intensely private artist, known for creating exquisite furniture. Simon never wanted a puppy, and he most definitely doesn’t want a woman. Besides, the lanky redhead is not his type. But tell that to the laws of attraction.

As Fiona embarks on training Jaws and as Simon begins to appreciate both dog and trainer, the past tears back into Fiona’s life. A copycat killer has emerged out of the shadows, a man whose bloodlust has been channeled by a master with one motive: to reclaim the woman who slipped out of his hands...
Genre: Romantic Suspense
Series: N/A

Nath: Nora Roberts is known as the Queen of Romance and I think it's a title that she deserves :D I love and enjoy her stand-alone books, some are better than others and I'm hoping The Search falls in that category.

Tongues of Serpents by Naomi Novik
published by Random House

Convicted of treason despite their heroic defense against Napoleon's invasion of England, Temeraire and Laurence-stripped of rank and standing-have been transported to the prison colony at New South Wales in distant Australia, where, it is hoped, they cannot further corrupt the British Aerial Corps with their dangerous notions of liberty for dragons. Temeraire and Laurence carry with them three dragon eggs intended to help establish a covert in the colony and destined to be handed over to such second-rate, undesirable officers as have been willing to accept so remote an assignment-including one former acquaintance, Captain Rankin, whose cruelty once cost a dragon its life.

Nor is this the greatest difficulty that confronts the exiled dragon and rider: Instead of leaving behind all the political entanglements and corruptions of the war, Laurence and Temeraire have instead sailed into a hornet's nest of fresh complications. For the colony at New South Wales has been thrown into turmoil after the overthrow of the military governor, one William Bligh-better known as Captain Bligh, late of HMS Bounty. Bligh wastes no time in attempting to enlist Temeraire and Laurence to restore him to office, while the upstart masters of the colony are equally determined that the new arrivals should not upset a balance of power precariously tipped in their favor.

Eager to escape this political quagmire, Laurence and Temeraire take on a mission to find a way through the forbidding Blue Mountains and into the interior of Australia. But when one of the dragon eggs is stolen from Temeraire, the surveying expedition becomes a desperate race to recover it in time-a race that leads to a shocking discovery and a dangerous new obstacle in the global war between Britain and Napoleon.
Genre: Fantasy
Series: Temeraire series, Book #6

Nath: Hmmm, I really love love love His Majesty's Dragon. Laurence and Temeraire were sooo ocute. It was definitively the best book in the series so far. The other books are a bit heavy on politics and I'm not too fond of Temeraire's notions of liberty for dragons. Still, Tongues of Serpents definitively has an interesting premises... So we'll see :P

Ames: I want to read this one, but I'll be happy to wait for the paperback version. LOL

Forget You by Jennifer Echols
Published by Simon & Schuster

WHY CAN’T YOU CHOOSE WHAT YOU FORGET . . . AND WHAT YOU REMEMBER?

There’s a lot Zoey would like to forget. Like how her father has knocked up his twenty-four years old girlfriend. Like Zoey’s fear that the whole town will find out about her mom’s nervous breakdown. Like darkly handsome bad boy Doug taunting her at school. Feeling like her life is about to become a complete mess, Zoey fights back the only way she knows how, using her famous attention to detail to make sure she’s the perfect daughter, the perfect student, and the perfect girlfriend to ultra-popular football player Brandon. But then Zoey is in a car crash, and the next day there’s one thing she can’t remember at all—the entire night before. Did she go parking with Brandon, like she planned? And if so, why does it seem like Brandon is avoiding her? And why is Doug—of all people— suddenly acting as if something significant happened between the two of them? Zoey dimly remembers Doug pulling her from the wreck, but he keeps referring to what happened that night as if it was more, and it terrifies Zoey to admit how much is a blank to her. Controlled, meticulous Zoey is quickly losing her grip on the all-important details of her life—a life that seems strangely empty of Brandon, and strangely full of Doug.
Genre: Young Adult
Series: N/A

Ames: I know Wena really enjoyed Going Too Far by this author (and which I also have in my tbr pile) and this one sounds good. I've been eagerly awaiting this one for a while now.

Nath: I've read one book by Jennifer Echols and enjoyed it. Whether I get this book or not though will depend on the reviews :)

Ames: I LOVE LOVE LOVE Eloisa James and I'm really looking forward to reading this one. :P

Ames: I like Victoria's contemporaries so I'm going out on a limb here and thinking I might like her historicals as well.

Which is why Lisle and Olivia find themselves in a gloomy Scottish castle inhabited by spiteful ghosts and craven murderers...and a shocking secret: the greatest peril of all may be burning within their own stubborn hearts.
Genre: Historical Romance
Series: Fallen Women #4

Ames: I have loved Olivia and Peregrine ever since I read Lord Perfect (back when I didn't like kids in my romance) and hoped they'd get their own book. I was overjoyed to hear that that book was going to happen and even though Holly didn't really care for it, I'm still anxious to read this one.

Nath: Hmmm, I'm hesitant about this one, specifically since Holly didn't really care for it. Just like Ames, I thought Olivia and Peregrine were very cute and I love childhood friends to lovers theme... but seems like Olivia didn't live up to her character. Or perhaps she lived up to it too much?

All I Ever Wanted by Kristan Higgins
published by Harlequin

If that isn’t bad enough, her mom decides to throw her a 3-0 birthday bash in the family funeral home.

Bad goes to worse when she stirs up a relationship with the town’s most eligible — yet not so warm and fuzzy — veterinarian, Ian McFarland, in order to flag Mark’s attention. So Ian’s more comfortable with animals… So he’s formal, orderly and just a bit tense. The ever-friendly, fun-loving and spontaneous Callie decides it’s time for Ian to get a personality makeover. But, dang — if he doesn’t shock the heck out of her, she might actually fall for Vermont’s unlikeliest eligible bachelor...
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Series: N/A

Ames: I like Kristan Higgins. Although The Next Best Thing didn't live up to expectations, I still enjoyed it and hello! Veterinarian hero! Although I don't like how baby-crazy the heroines are...I still find them oddly compelling. LOL

Nath: This sounds like a very typical Kristan Higgins plot and can go either way, but only one way to find out, right? :P I'm really happy that Ms Higgins is having a second book published this year and hoping it'll be a hit :)

Infamous by Suzanne Brockmann

And One Last Thing... by Molly Harper
published by Simon & Schuster

"If Singletree’s only florist didn’t deliver her posies half-drunk, I might still be married to that floor-licking, scum-sucking, receptionist-nailing hack-accountant, Mike Terwilliger."

Lacey Terwilliger’s shock and humiliation over her husband’s philandering prompt her to add some bonus material to Mike’s company newsletter: stunning Technicolor descriptions of the special brand of "administrative support" his receptionist gives him. The detailed mass e-mail to Mike’s family, friends, and clients blows up in her face, and before one can say "instant urban legend," Lacey has become the pariah of her small Kentucky town, a media punch line, and the defendant in Mike’s defamation lawsuit.

Her seemingly perfect life up in flames, Lacey retreats to her family’s lakeside cabin, only to encounter an aggravating neighbor named Monroe. A hunky crime novelist with a low tolerance for drama, Monroe is not thrilled about a newly divorced woman moving in next door. But with time, beer, and a screen door to the nose, a cautious friendship develops into something infinitely more satisfying.

Lacey has to make a decision about her long-term living arrangements, though. Should she take a job writing caustic divorce newsletters for paying clients, or move on with her own life, pursuing more literary aspirations? Can she find happiness with a man who tells her what he thinks and not what she wants to hear? And will she ever be able to resist saying one... last... thing?
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Series: N/A

Nath: Earlier this year, I've read the Jane Jameson series and it was a lot of fun :) If Ms Harper is writing a contemporary romance with the same sense of humor, I definitively want to read it!

I’m curious about the Brockmann since it sounds different from either of her SEAL series. It's brand new right? Not a reprint?

I like the sound of the Molly Harper – the blurb made me laugh. :)

The only one I know I’ll be reading soon is the NR - it’s waiting for me at the library.

~ames~ said...

Leslie - I believe it's a completely brand new contemporary, unrelated to either of her series!

Taja said...

Well, you're all evil. :)

I only skimmed and already I picked up at least two titles for my list: Eloisa James and Victoria Dahl (Crazy in Love). Then there's the maybe-book by Jennifer Echols. Add them all to the Meljean Brook that already was on my list and I have four new books I want just by skimming this post. And yikes, I already bought books this month!

I'm not looking at this post again. Sorry! It's too dangerous. ;)

PS: Thanks for bringing the books to my attention. :)

nath said...

Rowena - Oh, I'm so glad you enjoyed the Kristan Higgins, Wena! I'm really looking forward to it!

I'll be looking for your review of the Jennifer Echols :) The release is not too far away, patience :P

Nicole - I'm glad you enjoyed the Dahl, Nicole. I read it and thought it was okay. Makes me hate the media a lot ^_^;

Oh and glad to know the Tessa Dare are good. Need to get to them :P

Mollie - Did you read The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie? Curious to see what you'll think of Lady Isabella's Scandalous Marriage....

Leslie - Molly Harper is a very fun author :D I can't wait for it! How far along the waiting list are you for the NR? :P

Taja - LOL, sorry! 4 books isn't bad though... i mean, it could have been worst... Look Christine! LOL.

Hilcia said...

I cannot believe I forgot about Jennifer Ashley's book! Now I have to run and get it. :D
