April New Releases

Getting ready for April's new releases post, I had to do a little dance of joy. April and May are really good months for new releases! I can't wait to read some of them! Here's what Nath, Monroe and I are looking forward to this month...

April 1

My One and Only by Kristan Higgins
published by HQN Books (Harlequin)
Divorce attorney Harper James can't catch a break. Bad enough that she runs into her ex-hubby, Nick, at her sister's destination wedding, but now, by a cruel twist of fate, she's being forced to make a cross-country road trip with him. And her almost-fiancé back at home is not likely to be sympathetic. Harper can't help that Nick has come blazing back into her life in all of his frustratingly appealing, gorgeous architect glory. But in Nick's eyes, Harper's always been the one. If they can only get it right this time, forever might be waiting just around the bend.
Genre: Contemporary romance
Series: None

Ames: I'm really torn on this one. I enjoy Kristan's writing, but this review at Dear Author is giving me pause. I still want to read it and form my own opinion though.

Nath: I know what you mean Ames!! The reviews of this one vary a lot... but I do think I'll pick it up eventually, especially since I hear Ms Higgins has finally broken out of the mold with Harper :P

April 5

The Chase by Erin McCarthy
published by Berkley
Kendall Holbrook is determined to make it to the top, even with the challenge of being a woman on the male-dominated racing circuit. She doesn't have time for romance-especially not with racing rival Evan Monroe, the man who nearly crushed her dream years ago. Tricked into meeting him, Kendall is experiencing all those old feelings again-and she can't deny that they still have enough chemistry to set fire to the track.

Genre: Contemporary romance, Sports romance
Series: Fast Track series, Book #4

Ames: I haven't read the third book in this series yet but I'm really excited about this one. I like when a woman is trying to make a name for herself in a male-dominated arena.

Nath: I was disappointed with the last book, Hot Finish, but I think it was a matter of expectations. Have none for this one, so it should go well LOL. However, unlike Ames, I'm not crazy about Kendall being a driver...

Monroe: I LOVE this series!!! I totally can't wait for this book to come out! Erin McCarthy ROCKS!

The School for Brides by Cheryl Ann Smith
published by Berkley
Miss Eva Black spent her life concealing her mother's past as a courtesan. Now a spinster, her beauty hidden away under a dour disguise, Eva spends her days schooling courtesans to be suitable wives. But one vengeful duke does not appreciate Eva turning his mistress into a lady. He plans to seduce Eva into becoming what she detests: a courtesan. But he doesn't expect her to be a woman of such beauty and so many secrets.
Genre: Historical romance
Series: ?

Nath: The cover caught my eyes :) I'm not really fond of main characters' whose mother was a courtesan - just not my favorite trope at all. As a result, I'm going to wait for reviews before picking up The School for Brides; however, it made it onto my radar, so I thought worth mentioning :)

Mesmerized by Lauren Dane
published by Berkley
Andrei Solace delivers death on silent feet as an assassin for the Phantom Corps. Mercenary Piper Roundtree thought she was over him. Now the lovers must join forces- in more ways than one-to save the Known Universe before the Imperialist enemy hurls it into irreversible chaos.

Genre: Futuristic romance
Series: Phantom Corps, Book #2

Ames: It's Lauren Dane. 'Nuff said. Also, that cover. Ms. Dane has been blessed by the cover gods. LOL

Nath: I've been meaning to try Ms Dane, but I still haven't... Sigh.

Monroe: Lauren Dane plus TOTALLY hot cover...SOLD!

Nath: You should!! LOL. I love the new cover and I'm thinking of getting it... even though I have two other copies at home LOL. That is how much I love this book!

Ames: LOL I think that cover is hokey.

Genre: Young Adult Urban Fantasy
Series: Darkness Rising trilogy, Book #1

Nath: Can't wait for this book!!! It's the start of a new trilogy and I wonder how Ms Armstrong is going to tie this in to her other series :) Not having read Waking the Witch, it's been rather quiet Armstrong year for me ^_^; and that means I need my Kelley Armstrong's fix!!

But the Kingdom needs only one huntress to save it, and what it takes could tear Kaede and Taisin apart forever.
Genre: Young Adult, Fantasy

Ames: I have Ash in my TBR Pile. This book sounds very interesting, and I like that it's two female characters falling for each other.

Nath: Don't know where I've been, because I have not heard of Ash... However, this cover? Pure awesomeness!

Chasing Fire by Nora Roberts

At this point, returning to the wilds of Montana for the season feels like coming home – even with reminders of the partner she lost last season still lingering. Fortunately, this year’s rookie crop is one of their strongest ever – and Gulliver Curry’s one of the best. He’s also a walking contradiction, a hotshot firefighter with a big vocabulary and a winter job at a kids’ arcade. But everything is thrown off-balance when a dark presence lashes out against Rowan, looking to blame someone for last year’s tragedy. Rowan knows she can’t complicate things with Gull – any distractions in the air or on the ground could mean the end – but if she doesn’t find someone she can lean on, she may not make it through the summer...

WELCOME TO THE APOCALYPSE In Deuce's world, people earn the right to a name only if they survive their first fifteen years. By that point, each unnamed 'brat' has trained into one of three groups-Breeders, Builders, or Hunters, identifiable by the number of scars they bear on their arms. Deuce has wanted to be a Huntress for as long as she can remember. As a Huntress, her purpose is clear--to brave the dangerous tunnels outside the enclave and bring back meat to feed the group while evading ferocious monsters known as Freaks. She's worked toward this goal her whole life, and nothing's going to stop her, not even a beautiful, brooding Hunter named Fade. When the mysterious boy becomes her partner, Deuce's troubles are just beginning. Down below, deviation from the rules is punished swiftly and harshly, and Fade doesn't like following orders. At first she thinks he's crazy, but as death stalks their sanctuary, and it becomes clear the elders don't always know best, Deuce wonders if Fade might be telling the truth. Her partner confuses her; she's never known a boy like him before, as prone to touching her gently as to using his knives with feral grace. As Deuce's perception shifts, so does the balance in the constant battle for survival. The mindless Freaks, once considered a threat only due to their sheer numbers, show signs of cunning and strategy... but the elders refuse to heed any warnings. Despite imminent disaster, the enclave puts their faith in strictures and sacrifice instead. No matter how she tries, Deuce cannot stem the dark tide that carries her far from the only world she's ever known.

I DNF'd on the 2nd Fast Track book and the 3rd one is still sitting in the TBR...but I might just pick up this 4th one because it features a female driver. Lol.

I was on the fence about buying the Higgins book but after DA reviewed it I'm not so sure now. Maybe I'll wait for one of you ladies to review it. :P

I canNOT wait for The Gathering. I just have to figure out where I'm going to buy it now that I no longer have ANY bookstores near me. *cries*

From the list, I will also be picking up Mesmerized, Chasing Fire and Tangled Threads. Auto-buy authors!

I have a few more additions to my April TBB. There's Deserving of Luke by Tracy Wolff, Navarro’s Promise by Lora Leigh, and Big Bad Beast by Shelly Laurenston. I also have Hotter than Wildfire by Lisa Marie Rice on my radar but that might not be picked up as quick. Ah, I'm so excited for all the new releases this month! :D

Btw, Dark Descendant sounds really interesting. Read it and review it, Nath! hehe

There are three books in the Gini Koch series? I have the first out from the library. I need to get cracking! I have The Gathering here to read, but haven't got to it yet. Ash by Malinda Lo was pretty good. Huntress looks interesting. Hopefully my library will get a copy!

Seeing the first book by Gini Koch in my TBB list forever! Seeing this one here made go buy it, lol! Now I just have to read it and catch up. :)

I'll be getting Chasing Fire and the Gibson. And THANKS for the heads up on the Emma Wildes ebook! I'll get that one too.

I still haven't read the books I have in my TBR by Erin McCarthy, so I'm not buying the new ones yet, and unfortunately Higgins is just not for me. I'll wait to read reviews on the Aguirre YA book... I like her sci-fi series, but YA Dystopian? I'm sure it will do well, but unfortunately also not for me. :(

Isabel said...

I don't see anything for me this month. Oh well.

nath said...

Tabitha - Didn't you read the 3rd one yet, Tabs? Or did you at least start? I thought you did, hmmm.

Ugh, I was so hoping to have received The Gathering already!! I pre-ordered the book, but it hasn't been shipped yet... and it's being released tomorrow in store. Sigh, now I have to be patient... try not to succumb to the temptation ^_^; I say order it online if you don't have any bookstores... or take a look at Walmart/Target, you might get lucky!

Really, this month and next month are good months :P

Kailana - Yes, this is the third one. There is a 4th one planned, since there is an excerpt at the end of Alien in the Family.

I need to check to see if my library has Ash...

Hilcia - I hope you give a try to Touched by an Alien, Hils :)

You're going to get the Gibson? I'm going to try to wait till RWA. LOL, I guess it's going to depend on the reviews ^_^;

Yeah, I'm not a fan of dystopian books either ^_^;

Isabel - Awwww, well you get to save money :) next month, there's the new Riordan coming out!

nath said...

Tabitha - If I read Dark Descendant, I will review it!! Sounds good, right? :P

Leslie said...

I'd definitely recommend the Vaughan trilogy.

I'm looking forward the Aguirre's venture into YA. Looks to be very good.

I can't wait to read Julia Spencer-Fleming's One Was a Soldier. Really got into that series - love the diversity of characters.

Christine said...

ALL of those books look great.

Kristan Higgins is an auto buy for me, so I'll get that one eventually.

LOVE the cover of the Gini Koch. Looks super fun!

Tabitha said...

Nath - I may have started the third one but I don't think I got far as I would've had it down as DNF.

Oh! I want to pick up The Gathering in stores too! I also pre-ordered my copy but I only did it a few days ago so I doubt it's coming anytime soon. Sigh. I need me an Armstrong fix. Maybe I should go back and re-read the YA books. Lol.

Did you pre-order the Singh book? I don't pre-order books often but I couldn't resist with KA and I'm sure I'll order the Singh too. :P

Yes, sounds good. Read and review Dark Descendant. I'm sure you'll tell me if I'll enjoy it as well or not! Lol

nath said...

Leslie - LOL, I agree Leslie. The warlands books are great romance in my opinion :P

Hmmm, the Julia Fleming-Spencer series is one I'm going to look out for... not sure I'm going to read it, but I'm going to keep my eyes open for it LOL.

Christine - Nod nod about the Higgins :)

LOL, the artist for the Gini Koch books really try to make covers that are also linked to the storyline, so it's all cool :)

Tabitha - Nod nod. I just seemed to remember you started it, but then of course, I could be wrong :P

I haven't pre-ordered to Singh yet. Waiting to get closer to the release date to do so :P

Mariana said...
