New Releases - March 2013

What is the saying? Spring is the season of love... And publishing houses must realize it because they are finally loosening their tight fists and releasing more books!! Yay! Granted, it's not all romance but trust me, it'll do LOL. Okay, okay, I said something similar last month, that there was more new releases... and there was in comparison to December and January, but a lot of the books we had on our list were maybes. Not the case this month! Oh no! Instead, it's a lot of must-have and I can't wait to get my grubby hands on them :)

Ready to check out the list of new releases we're looking forward to? You might want to ready your wallet as well :P Here we go!

Revenge of the Girl with the Great Personality by Elizabeth Eulberg
published by Scholastic
Don't mess with a girl with a Great Personality.

Everybody loves Lexi. She's popular, smart, funny...but she's never been one of those girls, the pretty ones who get all the attention from guys. And on top of that, her seven-year-old sister, Mackenzie, is a terror in a tiara, and part of a pageant scene where she gets praised for her beauty (with the help of fake hair and tons of makeup).

Lexi's sick of it. She's sick of being the girl who hears about kisses instead of getting them. She's sick of being ignored by her longtime crush, Logan. She's sick of being taken for granted by her pageant-obsessed mom. And she's sick of having all her family's money wasted on a phony pursuit of perfection.

The time has come for Lexi to step out from the sidelines. Girls without great personalities aren't going to know what hit them. Because Lexi's going to play the beauty game - and she's in it to win it.
Genre: YA, Contemporary
Series: None

Nath: I really, really, really enjoyed Ms Eulberg's book last year, Take a Bow, and I'm hoping this book is as good :) I'm curious about this book because of the premise... but I have to say, it could have used a better cover ^_^;

Ames:  Oh I agree about the cover!  But I just know whatever is going to be behind that cover will be awesome, because that is how Elizabeth writes.  Awesome!!  LOL

Nath: I agree with you Ames. That's what so refreshing about Ms Eulberg, she writes her own story, doesn't follow trends and that results in something good and refreshing :)

Things I Can't Forget by Miranda Kenneally
published by Sourcebooks
Kate has always been the good girl. Too good, according to some people at school—although they have no idea the guilty secret she carries. But this summer, everything is different…

This summer she’s a counselor at Cumberland Creek summer camp, and she wants to put the past behind her. This summer Matt is back as a counselor too. He’s the first guy she ever kissed, and he’s gone from a geeky songwriter who loved The Hardy Boys to a buff lifeguard who loves to flirt…with her.

Kate used to think the world was black and white, right and wrong. Turns out, life isn’t that easy…
Genre: YA, Contemporary
Series: Hundred Oaks, Book #3

Nath: I haven't really been in the mood for contemporary YA books lately and as such, have yet to read the second book of this series, Stealing Parker. However, I know that when the mood strikes, I'll be picking these up :)

Ames:  I haven't read Stealing Parker yet either.  LOL  I want to re-read Catching Jordan.  But I loved CJ so I know I'll be getting this anyway.

The Forbidden Queen by Anne O'Brien
published by Harlequin (Mira)
1415. The Battle of Agincourt is over, and the young princess Katherine de Valois is the prize to be offered to Henry V of England. Setting aside those driven by ambition, Katherine falls in love with her servant Owen Tudor, and glimpses the happiness that love can bring. But their enemies are circling, all battling for power and determined to prevent their marriage. Katherine will have to fight to control her own destiny…

In this compelling and beautifully written book, Anne O’Brien tells the story of the innocent young princess, Katherine de Valois, a pawn in a ruthless political game between England and France, and the woman who founded the most famous royal dynasty of all – the Tudors.
Genre: Historical fiction
Series: None

Ames:  I love Anne O'Brien's books.  Love them.  I can't wait to read this one.  She really transports you to the time period she writes about.

Genre: Contemporary romance, sport romance
Series: Play by Play, Book #5

Nath: The books in this series have been a bit hit and miss with me, but after reading the excerpt of Thrown by a Curve, I'm definitively picking it up! :) I like what I've seen of Alicia and Garrett so far and I hope it translates into a winner :P

Ames:  Another series I'm behind on but I'll be keeping an eye on reviews and try to get caught up!

High Risk by Vivian Arend
published by Berkley

Since Marcus Landers was permanently injured during a mission, all his energies have been focused on his Lifeline team. When Becki—whom he had an intense affair with seven years ago—arrives in Banff, he’s inspired to reignite the spark they once had. Their mutual ardor slowly awakens Becki’s dormant, haunting memories.

New truths surface until Becki must at last confront her greatest fear. Remembering the past might mean a future without the man she loves…
Genre: Romantic Suspense
Series: Adrenaline, Book #1

Nath: Ms Arend has been on my radar for years and this is the perfect opportunity for me to give her a try :) I like that the premises are different for romantic suspense - doesn't look like anyone has military training, yay! And it's set in Canada, so double yay! LOL.

Ames:  I like the Canadian connection too.  LOL  And the early buzz about this book definitely has me intrigued.

Frost Burned by Patricia Briggs

After an accident in bumper-to-bumper traffic, Mercy and Jesse can’t reach Adam—or anyone else in the pack for that matter. They’ve all been abducted.

Through their mating bond, all Mercy knows is that Adam is angry and in pain. With the werewolves fighting a political battle to gain acceptance from the public, Mercy fears Adam’s disappearance may be related—and that he and the pack are in serious danger. Outclassed and on her own, Mercy may be forced to seek assistance from any ally she can get, no matter how unlikely.
Genre: Urban Fantasy
Series: Mercy Thompson, Book #7

Nath: Wow, it's been a while since we've last seen Mercy and Adam! Quite frankly, I don't really know what to expect, but I have faith in Ms Briggs that it'll be good :P I wonder who is going to be the ally? And I hope there's a cross-over with Charles and Anna!

Ames:  I think I'm two books behind on this series.  But I don't care!!  I'm still buying this one!

Nath: No, Ames. I remember you reading Silver Borne, so you're just one book behind. Ms Briggs has been alternating between this series and the Alpha & Omega's, so a lot of time has gone by, but not many books have been released. But seriously, you should read the Alpha & Omega series as well :P

Ames:  I started the Alpha & Omega series...but fell behind.  LMAO!!

Genre: Paranormal romance
Series: Psy-Changelings, Books #0.5, 3.5, 9.5 and 10.5

Nath: A novella with Lara and Walker!! I can't wait!! And that's enough for me to buy Wild Invitation, even though I already own the first two novellas ^_^;

Ames:  I never read those other two novellas before so I'm looking forward to this one!!  It'll tide me over until the next Psy Changeling book comes out.

Nath: Really, you've never read any of them, Ames? LOL, I see Psy-Changelings material and I have to jump on it... no matter how long it is ^_^;

Ames:  I stay away from anthologies so I don't get the novellas until they're in a collection like this.

Midnight Blue-Light Special by Seanan McGuire
published by DAW
Cryptid, noun:
1. Any creature whose existence has been suggested but not proven scientifically. Term officially coined by cryptozoologist John E. Wall in 1983.
2. That thing that's getting ready to eat your head.
3. See also: "monster."

The Price family has spent generations studying the monsters of the world, working to protect them from humanity--and humanity from them. Enter Verity Price. Despite being trained from birth as a cryptozoologist, she'd rather dance a tango than tangle with a demon, and when her work with the cryptid community took her to Manhattan, she thought she would finally be free to pursue competition-level dance in earnest. It didn't quite work out that way...

But now, with the snake cult that was killing virgins all over Manhattan finally taken care of, Verity is ready to settle down for some serious ballroom dancing—until her on-again, off-again, semi-boyfriend Dominic De Luca, a member of the monster-hunting Covenant of St. George, informs her that the Covenant is on their way to assess the city's readiness for a cryptid purge. With everything and everyone she loves on the line, there's no way Verity can take that lying down.

Alliances will be tested, allies will be questioned, lives will be lost, and the talking mice in Verity's apartment will immortalize everything as holy writ--assuming there's anyone left standing when all is said and done. It's a midnight blue-light special, and the sale of the day is on betrayal, deceit...and carnage.
Genre: Urban Fantasy
Series: InCryptid, Book #2

Nath: I enjoyed the first book, Discount Armageddon, enough to check out the sequel. Although, I have to say, not a big fan of the cover ^_^;

Slashback by Rob Thurman
published by New American Library (ROC)
I stopped and let them circle me, first because it was intriguing and, second, because, honestly, what could they do? Only knives, but all armed, and that made them even more interesting. Interesting. Fun.

Playtime…

Taking on bloodthirsty supernatural monsters is how Caliban and Niko Leandros make a living. But years ago—before they became a force to be reckoned with—the brothers were almost victims of a very human serial killer.

Almost.

Unfortunately for them, that particular depraved killer was working as apprentice to a creature far more malevolent—the legendary Spring-heeled Jack. He’s just hit town. He hasn’t forgotten what the Leandros brothers did to his murderous protégé. He hasn’t forgotten what they owe him.

And now they are going to pay… and pay… and pay...
Genre: Urban Fantasy
Series: Cal Leandros, Book #8

Nath: Yay, a new Cal Leandros book! :) I find the series to be quite unique: a nice blend of urban fantasy elements, darkness and humor :P And I so enjoy the bromance as well... If only there could be a touch more romance, it would be perfect! Gotta say though, that cover... Not my favorite. Something is just off ^_^;

Written in Red by Anne Bishop
published by New American Library (ROC)
As a cassandra sangue, or blood prophet, Meg Corbyn can see the future when her skin is cut—a gift that feels more like a curse. Meg’s Controller keeps her enslaved so he can have full access to her visions. But when she escapes, the only safe place Meg can hide is at the Lakeside Courtyard—a business district operated by the Others.

Shape-shifter Simon Wolfgard is reluctant to hire the stranger who inquires about the Human Liaison job. First, he senses she’s keeping a secret, and second, she doesn’t smell like human prey. Yet a stronger instinct propels him to give Meg the job. And when he learns the truth about Meg and that she’s wanted by the government, he’ll have to decide if she’s worth the fight between humans and the Others that will surely follow.
Genre: Urban Fantasy
Series: The Others, Book #1

Nath: It feels like it's been a while since I last read a book by Ms Bishop and perhaps, it's been. Written in Red was on my radar, but I wasn't sure whether I'd get it or not. However, it's been getting some good reviews.. and after all, it's Anne Bishop :) I'm curious to see what kind of world she's going to build for her first foray into urban fantasy :)

Ames:  It's been forever for me since I read anything by Anne Bishop (because I only read the Black Jewels Trilogy like six years ago LOL).  I'll see what you think of this one.

Genre: Historical romance
Series: Whispers of Scandal, Book #2

Nath: Totally looking forward to this one. Ms Wildes has become an auto-buy author for me when it comes to historical romance :) I just enjoy her writing and her stories. This one sounds particularly good - a widow accused of poisoning her husbands - and I'm looking forward to see how Benjamin's relationship with his wife has evolved :)

Ames:  I just finished reading this one and I thoroughly enjoyed it!!

How can a group of misfits capture one of the most powerful beings ever created? And will they find out how to bring Jared back to them before it’s too late?
Genre: YA, Paranormal
Series: Darklight, Book #2

Nath: I've really enjoyed Ms Jones' Charley Davidson series, it's just so much fun with great mysteries :)  As such, I should have been all over her YA series, except that I find the premise is slightly too similar to her adult series. Still, this book is on my radar because if it turns out as good as the Charley Davidson series, I will want to give this a try :)

Genre: Contemporary romance, Category romance
Series: Camelot, Book #2

Nath: Read How to Misbehave and thought it was so so. Therefore, I'm not really in a hurry to get this one even though the blurb sounds interesting.

Ames:  I love bodyguard plots.  I haven't read one in a while.  And I hear good things about Knox' writing even though I wasn't the biggest fan of Ride With Me.

A Fine Romance by Christi Barth
published by Carina Press
They say you form your first impression of someone within thirty seconds of meeting them. Or, in Mira Parrish's case, within thirty minutes of not meeting them, when said person is supposed to pick you up from the airport and never shows. This is not a perfect start to her new life. Her friend Ivy is depending on her to run a new romance store, and Mira can't afford to let her down.

Sam Lyons should probably apologize. But every time he sees Mira--which is often, since his family owns the bakery next to her shop--he can't resist antagonizing her. There's something about the sexy, straight-laced woman that drives him crazy. He can't get involved, though. He has too much baggage to be any good in a serious relationship.

Despite his teasing attitude, Mira finds Sam too sweet to resist. (His hot body may be a factor.) But if there's going to be anything permanent between them, they'll need to let go of their pasts and look to the future...
Genre: Contemporary romance
Series: Aisle Bound trilogy, Book #2

Nath: This one sounds really cute :) I meant to read the first one, Planning for Love, after reading Ames' review, but didn't get the chance. Oups ^_^; I wonder if Sam actually works at the bakery because that would be fun to read! :)

Ames:  I really enjoyed Planning for Love so I've got some hopes for this one.  :P

Genre: Erotica romance
Series: Just One Night, Part #2

Ames:  I read the first one, The Stranger, and I liked it enough to want to know how things play out in the second installment.

Series: Connected to The Ugly Duchess and Seduced by a Pirate

Nath: Men are always so stupid, never able to recognize the woman who truly loves them. Have to say though, based on the blurbs, this serial sounds pretty interesting!

For loving Genevieve, he discovers, means giving her back the freedom that was stolen from her—even if it means losing her forever.
Genre: Historical romance
Series: The Montgomerys and Armstrongs, Book #2

Nath: The blurb is quite interesting and since I've enjoyed Never Seduce a Scot, there's a high chance I'll be picking this one up :) While I enjoy historical romance, Scots and highlanders have never been my favorites, but Ms Banks has proven me wrong before... Hopefully, she can do it a second time :)

Ames:  Nath, I've always felt there was a similarity between Banks highlander books and Julie Garwood's.  So you should check those out.  LOL  And I enjoyed Never Seduce a Scot as well so I'm looking forward to reading this one.

All she wants is to get close to him so she can get her house back. But Declan has other ideas. He doesn’t mind being in close proximity to Leah—as long as it’s in the bedroom…
Genre: Contemporary romance
Series: Hanover Brothers, Book #1

Nath: I enjoy con artist characters... but not such much stories of their offspring ^_^; So I think I'm going to pass on this one. Just want to add my two cents about the cover though. I don't particularly love covers with ripped men torsos, but I gotta say those naked torsos do project a good aura. I looked at this cover and thought it was YA, because the male model looks, I don't know, young? Also, not the greatest cover... My first thought was that No Turning Back was self-published ^_^;

Ames:  It's funny, with a lot of releases this month I've been drawn to the cover...and I never even noticed this one.  Go figure.  I like HelenKay's writing so I think this one will be cute.

Genre: Historical romance, Colonical Americana
Series: None

Nath: This is an oldie from Ms Alexander that I never got the chance to read, so I'm looking forward to it :) I don't think I've ever read one of her book set out of regency, so this will be interesting. Plus, you know how much I love Ms Alexander's writing :)

Ames:  You've recently turned me onto Victoria's writing so I'm looking forward to this one too.  And I like that cover.

Nath: Yay, I'm so glad!! But keep in mind this is a re-print, so no guarantee. And the cover is nice... way better than the original one ^_^;

Once Tempted by Laura Moore
published by Random House Publishing (Ballantine Books)
Oldest son Ward Knowles feels the sprawling California ranch in his blood. And now that the family business has expanded to include a popular resort, he’s working harder than ever. Silver Creek is his legacy and his life, which is fine for the ruggedly sexy ladies’ man and committed bachelor. Love and trust don’t come easily for Ward since he lost his heart to a gold digger—until he meets a shy, unpretentious beauty whose sweet grace is about to turn his jaded heart into a hungry one.

Tess Casari has found sanctuary at Silver Creek, working as an assistant to Ward’s mother, Adele. Grateful for her busy new life running the ranch’s spa and resort, Tess can escape the heartbreak, humiliation, and secret shame of her failed marriage. The last thing she needs is temptation—especially from a man who reminds her so much of the husband who shattered her faith in love. But passion and destiny are about to change the rules for two people who have stopped believing in the healing power of love.
Genre: Contemporary romance
Series: Silver Creek, Book #1

Nath: I read and enjoyed Ms Moore's books previously, so it took very little convincing from Brie - who was lucky enough to score an ARC - for me to add this book on my list of books to buy for this month :) Looking forward to a good contemporary romance book!

Ames:  I haven't read Laura Moore before, but I'm intrigued because I know you like her stuff, Nath.  Plus a hot cowboy on the cover?  Doesn't take much for me to want.  LOL

Nath: Have I mentioned how easy we are recently? LOL.

The Wanderer by Robyn Carr
published by Harlequin (Mira)
Nestled on the Oregon coast is a small town of rocky beaches and rugged charm. Locals love the land's unspoiled beauty. Developers see it as a potential gold mine. When newcomer Hank Cooper learns he's been left an old friend's entire beachfront property, he finds himself with a community's destiny in his hands.

Cooper has never been a man to settle in one place, and Thunder Point was supposed to be just another quick stop. But Cooper finds himself getting involved with the town. And with Sarah Dupre, a woman as complicated as she is beautiful.

With the whole town watching for his next move, Cooper has to choose between his old life and a place full of new possibilities. A place that just might be home.
Genre: Contemporary romance
Series: Thunder Point, Book #1

Nath:  I'm glad to see Ms Carr starting a new series, because as much as I've enjoyed the Virgin River series, I think it has run its course. However, I'm a bit worried that the setting of the Thunder Point series is too similar to the Virgin River series and that's why I've been a bit hesitant about The Wanderer. However, from the reviews and comments from some friends, I've been worrying for nothing. So now, I have to check it out myself to be sure LOL. Also, I really like the new look of her covers - nice and clean :)

Ames:  Hey!!  I'll start with this series and try to keep up!  LOL

Nath: LOL, not a bad idea! :P

What She Wants by Sheila Roberts
published by Harlequin (Mira)
What do women want? Jonathan Templar and his poker buddies can't figure it out. Take Jonathan, for instance. He's been in love with Lissa Castle since they were kids but, geek that he is, she's never seen him as her Mr. Perfect. He has one last shot—their high school reunion. Kyle Long is equally discouraged. The pretty receptionist at his office keeps passing him over for other guys who may be taller but are definitely not superior. And Adam Edwards might be the most successful of Jonathan's friends, but he isn't having any success on the home front. His wife's kicked him out.

When Jonathan stumbles on a romance novel at the Icicle Falls library sale, he knows he's found the love expert he's been seeking—Vanessa Valentine, top-selling romance author. At first his buddies laugh at him for reading romance novels, but soon they, too, realize that these stories are the world's best textbooks on love. Poker night becomes book club night…and when all is read and done, they're going to be the kind of men women want!
Genre: Contemporary romance
Series: Life in Icicle Falls, Book #4

Nath: Doesn't the blurb sound cute?! LOL, I gotta find out how it works out for these guys! :)

Deadly String by Jennifer Estep
published by Simon & Schuster (Pocket)
Red is definitely my color. Good thing, because in my line of work, I end up wearing it a lot.

Most people shy away from blood, but for an assassin like me — Gin Blanco, aka the Spider — it’s just part of the job. Still, it would be nice to get a night off, especially when I’m attending the biggest gala event of the summer at Briartop, Ashland’s fanciest art museum. But it’s just not meant to be. For this exhibition of my late nemesis’ priceless possessions is not only the place to be seen, but the place to be robbed and taken hostage at gunpoint as well. No sooner did I get my champagne than a bunch of the unluckiest thieves ever burst into the museum and started looting the place.

Unlucky why? Because I brought along a couple of knives in addition to my killer dress. Add these to my Ice and Stone magic, and nothing makes me happier than showing the bad guys why red really is my color.
Genre: Urban Fantasy
Series: Elemental Assassin, Book #8

Nath: Woohoo, finally the next installment of the Elemental Assassin series. Why am I so excited? Because I've been waiting for this one to be released before reading Widow's Web! From what I've heard of the ending of Widow's Web, I'd probably want to get my hands on the sequel right away... and soon, I will :)

Lover at Last by J.R. Ward

Genre: Paranormal romance
Series: Black Dagger Brotherhood, Book #11

Ames:  I am one book behind in this series but I am going to catch up in time to read this one.  It's Blay and Qhuinn!!!  I've been looking forward to this one what feels like FOREVER.  LOL

Monroe: I constantly wait for these books to come out! You better bet I'll be racing to the store for this yumminess! I've missed these guys terribly!

Going Vintage by Lindsey Leavitt
published by Bloomsbury
When Mallory’s boyfriend, Jeremy, cheats on her with an online girlfriend, Mallory decides the best way to de-Jeremy her life is to de-modernize things too. Inspired by a list of goals her grandmother made in 1962, Mallory swears off technology and returns to a simpler time (when boyfriends couldn’t cheat with computer avatars). The List:
1. Run for pep club secretary
2. Host a fancy dinner party/soiree
3. Sew a dress for Homecoming
4. Find a steady
5. Do something dangerous
But simple proves to be crazy-complicated, and the details of the past begin to change Mallory’s present. Add in a too-busy grandmother, a sassy sister, and the cute pep-club president–who just happens to be her ex’s cousin–and soon Mallory begins to wonder if going vintage is going too far.
Genre: YA, Contemporary
Series: None

Nath: I've read and enjoyed Ms Leavitt's writing before and this one just sounds cute. A bit over the top, but seriously, did you see the cover? Who can resist it? :P

Ames:  I know!  I like Lindsey's writing too so I'm really looking forward to this one.  I think the going vintage stuff will lead to some good hijinks.

So, are you excited as me? What books are you going to get? And the eternal question: did we miss any?!

I just finished the 3rd book of the play by play series. it was all right. The sister kept bugging me about her fear of opening up the second bar, telling her family about her singing, and pushing ty away. But i do want to read the the other books. :)

I just finished Burton’s Playing to Win (book 4) and really liked the excerpt for Thrown by a Curve so I’m definitely picking this one up!

Yeah! Mercy’s back!

Cal & Nico! The blurb left me curious as to who this Jack is. I find I’m okay with the little to no romance so long as I get Cal & Nico.

So many historical romances. Too bad I haven’t been in the mood for them lately. Maybe one of these will blow you ladies away and get me back in the mood.

Oh, I liked Carr’s The Wanderer enough to recommend. It’s on NetGalley. :)
